Components & Decking Framing Plan
The components of a deck include footings, posts, beams, bracing, joists, decking, ledgers, rim boards, guard posts and rails, and stairs.
A deck framing plan shows the joist and beam layout; the location of the ledger board, posts and footings; and the type, size and spacing of the ledger board fasteners.

Prevent Decay
For all treated lumber projects, minimize notching, drilling and cutting with proper layout and planning. End cuts, notches and borings should be field treated with a coating of copper naphthenate (2% solution) commonly found at your local building materials outlet.
